Manager Training Program
When new managers are hired or when an employee is promoted to a manager position there are specific skills and information needed to be successful. The training for this job classification is multi-faceted and comes from various resources. The information below provides guidance and direction to navigate this new role.

Personnel Mandated Training for Managers |

All managers are required to have Performance Matters Training provided through the state Personnel Cabinet prior to completing performance evaluation on employees. If you have previously had the course you do have the option of repeating the program to increase skills in this area. Managers register for this training through the HRD Program Administrator/Agency Training Liaison.
Managers are also required to complete an online course in Fundamentals of Safety. This course is usually available on a quarterly basis and an email is distributed to managers to notify of the availability of the course. Managers register for this training through the HRD Program Administrator/Agency Training Liaison.
An online training in Ethics of State Government was developed by the Executive Branch Ethics Commission and is highly recommended for all new managers. If you have previously had this course it is not necessary to repeat, but you may do so if you wish to brush up on this information. Managers should submit a copy of the certificate of completion from this course to the HRD Program Administrator/Training Liaison for documentation purposes.

Mandatory Cabinet Manager Training |

In 2009 the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet began development a training program for managers within the Cabinet. The Cabinet plans were developed to provide a culture of continuous learning in order to increase and provide continuity in delivery high quality services. A strong commitment to lifelong learning is necessary to assure that management within the Cabinet is equipped to meet the demands of today and tomorrow regarding continuous organizational improvement. The goals of the Management Training Program include:
- To be more proactive toward workplace issues, and to do more with fewer resources;
- To provide essential training for managers to enhance their effectiveness;
- To increase awareness of resources available to managers who need guiance.
- To increase employee morale;
- To decrease employee turnover;
- To decrease employer liability

Manager Mentoring |
 |
When new managers are hired they are paired with a seasoned manager for mentoring in their new positions. This mentor works collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Program Services to provide orientation and ongoing support.
