Employee Orientation

New employees participate in several mandatory training programs to prepare for job responsibilities and gain a better understanding of the agency.  The agency HRD Program Administrator/Training Liaison maintains a list of new employees in need of mandatory training and will email the participants when training dates are identified.  The new employee registers for the training using the information provided in the email correspondence.

The following information outlines the mandatory training provided directly from the agency.  To determine if dates for these trainings have already been identified please check the Training Calendar or visit the Training News section of this site:

New Employee Orientation (NEO)

New employee orientation is now completed online and is a introduction to employment with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, Department of Workforce Investment and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.

Along with this online training new employees are also required to take online training courses in Anti-Harassment, Workplace Violence Prevention and Ethics for state government employees. Requests for exemption may be honored for Sexual Harassment and Workplace Violence if the new employee can show proof of attending these two programs within the year prior to their starting date with OVR.

Skills Enhancement Training

SET I:  This training is mandatory for all new counselors, but highly recommended for all new employees.  This training contains information on Social Security, Transition, Assessment, Application & Referral, Eligibility, IPE Development, CAP, Comparable Benefits and Service Fees as well as Follow-Up/Post Employment.  (August 16 - 18, 2011)

*Mandatory for new counselors only, but has valuable information for other employees.  Managers can request that other employees attend this training if it is pertinent to their position.

SET II:  Provides new employees with information regarding the programs and services within the agency such as Job Placement, Supported Employment and Rehabilitation Technology. *Mandatory for all new employees. (None scheduled at this time)

SET III:  Usually offered one time per year and two if needed, this training takes place at the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center located in Thelma, Kentucky.  Due to  unpredictable weather patterns in Eastern Kentucky during the winter the training is most often offered during the months of March or April.  The program provides detailed information regarding services provided by the center to consumers and is a vital component of the new employee training expeirence.  *Mandatory for all new employees. (October 19 - 20, 2011)

Career Development Plan is to be completed with supervisor within 3 months of employment and revisted during interim reviews in April and August.
