Computer Training

The agency has access to computer software training through New Horizons and the Energy and Environment Cabinet.  Both of these resources require the approval of the HRD Program Administrator as well as the direct supervisor.  The HRD Program Administrator is also the agency Training Liaison.

As with any training these must be included on the employee Career Development Plan.

Software Training

Employees with approval from their direct supervisor and the HRD Program may register for computer software courses. The cost of the training course will be billed to the training budget, but all expenses associated with travel to and from the training will be billed to the division, district or branch budget.

Tandem is now the state contractor for software training and they are located in Louisville.  They have many options available regarding virtual and e-learning training which assists with making their services available statewide.

*When approval is requested from the HRD Program Administrator the budget number to be used for the registration cost will be provided.

Training at the Tower

The Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) can provide training to all state government employees.  There are four training tracks available:

  1. "Just in Time" training for those emergency situations. An employee may make an appointment for training targeted to their special need to complete a project.
  2. "Basic to Power User" training for those interested in becoming experts in office applications. Classes provide employees with concept and hands-on training in each of the functions of the Office software. Upon completion of the entire course, the employee will not leave the class as a Power User but will have all the tools to become one with practice.
  3. "Certification Training" can be offered if enough employees are interested in obtaining the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) certification.
  4. "What’s New in Office 2007" will assist employees in the transition from Office 2003 to Office 2007. This two-day class is ideal for the experienced Office 2003 user or an employee who is considering upgrading to Office 2007 and wants to learn more about the interface and it's new features.  Compatibility issues and file formats will also be discussed.  Office 2007 offers the most functionality of any Office product to date.
